The Royal Society of Canada has elected three York University professors to its ranks as Fellows: Patrick Cavanagh, Glendon; Jonathan Edmondson, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies; and Anna Hudson, School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD). It has also elected three new members to the College of New Scholars, Artists & Scientists: Rebecca Pillai Riddell, Faculty of Health; Marlis Schweitzer, AMPD; and Zheng Hong (George) Zhu, Lassonde School of Engineering.

Hurricane Dorian has left a trail of devastation and destruction in the Grand Bahama and Abaco islands of the Bahamas, the eastern seaboard of the United States and the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The University community stands together with those who are affected by this natural disaster.

York University Professor Leah F. Vosko, of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, is being recognized for excellence in research by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). She is the recipient of the SSHRC’s prestigious Impact Award (Insight Category).

From Sept. 11 to Dec. 1, the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) launches its fall exhibitions. A major exhibition by Caecilia Tripp, her first in Canada, is partnered with an exhibition of Jae Jarrell, a program of the inaugural Toronto Biennial of Art. Both exhibitions will officially open on Sept. 11, during an evening reception that runs from 6 to 9 p.m. in the gallery’s space in the Accolade East Building at York University’s Keele Campus.
