Members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, including faculty and students, are on a mission to teach young students the real-world applications of math, with the hope that they can boost interest in math and entice students in high school to pursue math studies in university. And for some students, it has been life changing.

Rene Meshake and Kim Anderson will perform music and share art as part of their presentation for the Health and Society program’s second annual lecture. The free event will take place at 1 p.m. on March 4 in room 519 Kaneff Building at the Keele Campus.
York University Professor Dennis Raphael’s 2014 paper “Beyond policy analysis: the raw politics behind opposition to health public policy” was chosen as one of the eleven most influential or impactful papers published in the journal “Health Promotion International” in reference to public policy for health promotion.
Andrea O’Reilly, a professor in the School of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at York University and founder of Demeter Press and the Journal of the Motherhood Initiative, has received a 2019 Status of Women and Equity Award of Distinction from the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. The award recognizes faculty whose work has improved the lives and working conditions of academics who belong to historically marginalized groups.

The five-day Planetary Health Film Lab course featuring six emerging young filmmakers from around the world will conclude with a free public screening of three-minute documentaries about the impacts of climate change. The event will take place at 5 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Global Strategy Lab at the Keele Campus.
Nearly 20 years ago, a satellite mission called GRACE was launched to monitor mass transfers occurring above or below the Earth’s surface. The gravity field maps derived from GRACE measurements were obscured by very disturbing thick lines sweeping from south to north.
