York community invited to celebrate the career of Professor Linda Briskin

York professor Linda Briskin, a prolific scholar, retired this year.  As an active member in the Department of Social Science and the School of Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies, Briskin has been a leading feminist researcher in the area of gender, equity and unions and continues to briskin-cropbe widely published and influential in the field.

Her book Women Challenging Unions (1993), co-edited with York colleague Patricia McDermott, was a major contribution to labour studies and remains a key source book for feminist union activists in Canada and internationally. She continues this work through her project on Leadership, Feminism and Equality in Union in Canada. Her scholarly work in this area has been grounded in a lifetime of union activism.

Briskin’s colleagues, students and collaborators are gathering on Thursday, Oct.24 to celebrate her scholarship and contributions to the York University community. The celebration will take place from 2:30 to 4:30pm in S701 Ross Building on the Keele campus. A reception will follow.
