Highlighting the stories of workers and labour issues, York University’s Department of Social Science will present a special screening of films featured at this year’s Canadian International Labour Film Festival (CLiFF). The screening takes place Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.

Professor Christo El Morr was recently featured as an invited speaker during the “Christian Academic Forum for Citizenship in the Arab World” annual conference Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. In addition to his presentation, El Morr participated with an international editorial board in launching “Telos Magazine,” a new bilingual (Arabic and English) theology magazine.
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, York International and the York University Bookstore co-presents the launch of the book ‘The Essential Guide to Studying Abroad’ co-authored by Professor Thomas Klassen, School of Public Policy and Administration. The launch will take place Nov. 20. The event is part of International Education Week celebrations at York University.
Superbugs and antimicrobial resistance continue to raise the alarm globally and prevent the effective prevention and treatment of infections. In a commentary published in the journal “The Lancet,” York Professors Steven Hoffman and Susan Rogers Van Katwyk urge a curbing of the overuse and over-prescription of antibiotics.
The Centre for Feminist Research Indigenous Women’s Speakers Series and the Faculty of Health Indigenous Lecture Series on Decolonising Health present the Joyce Green Symposium, a workshop, talk and Q-and-A that explores the practice of colonialism. It takes place on Nov. 14.

Four faculty members within the Faculty of Health at York University were recognized on Nov. 6 for their accomplishments in teaching, research and service. The annual awards are presented by the dean, and reflect excellence and innovation within the Faculty.
On Oct. 24, more than 300 Toronto-area high school students gathered in the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre at the Keele Campus for the 2019 Gairdner Student Outreach Lectures. The Gairdner Lectures, which include both a student outreach and a faculty event, are brought to universities across Canada through the efforts of the Gairdner Foundation.
A one-day Risk & Insurance Studies Centre Forum will delve into questions about where microinsurance stands today and where it is headed. The forum will take place on Monday, Nov. 25, starting with a reception and breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre in downtown Toronto.
