Extended construction hours May 26 to Aug. 29

Orange sign saying road work ahead

As construction continues on the York University station box, including the excavation of the area known as the “light scoop,” extended working hours will be in effect from Monday, May 26 to Friday, Aug. 29. During this time, construction activities will run from approximately 5am to 11pm, seven days per week. Additional notices will be issued for any extended or overnight work that begins prior to 5am. During the week of May 26 to 30, early work in the station box will involve removing materials by tower crane. In the following weeks, work will include: mobilization of the construction work force, deliveries to the construction site, soil removal and pre-work inspections. During the extended working hours, construction-related noise from construction equipment and vehicles should be expected. Work will take place in the “contractor work zone” as indicated on the map below.

The City of Toronto’s normal working hours are 7am to 7pm. However, the City has approved a noise bylaw amendment for major transit projects, which allows contractors to perform overnight and weekend work for the duration of the project, when required. As construction proceeds at the York University subway station site, construction-related notices will continue to be issued.
