The Lassonde School of Engineering continues to grow.
A record number of students arrived in 2013, one dozen new faculty members joined the school and construction has begun on a new engineering building on the Keele campus. Most recently, the Lassonde School of Engineering’s Civil Engineering program received approval from the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance.
“The progress we have made at Lassonde in the last 12 months has been truly breathtaking. Now that Civil Engineering has the seal of approval from the province we are ready to go in 2014 as we prepare for the first wave of our major expansion,” said Lassonde School of Engineering Founding Dean Janusz Kozinski. “Adding Civil Engineering to our school, along with Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, cements our place as a comprehensive school offering the full gamut of programs for prospective students in Ontario and far beyond.
“Credit must go to the indomitable Professor Jit Sharma who has showed incredible energy and verve to establish Civil Engineering in such a short space of time, and to everyone at York University who has helped to make this possible. We can all be proud of what we have achieved,” said Kozinski, Founding Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering.
The Department of Civil Engineering is chaired by Professor Jit Sharma who came to the Lassonde School of Engineering last year from the University of Saskatchewan. He is joined in the new department by Professor Dan Palermo, recruited from the University of Ottawa.
“The Civil Engineering program promises to be a rigorous, engaging and inspiring experience for our students. It will reflect the vision of the Renaissance Engineering where students will learn what it takes to become entrepreneurial civil engineers with a social conscience and a sense of global citizenship,” said Sharma.
