Prominent medical and biological researchers will talk about their work in women’s health Friday at a symposium organized by biology students.
Speakers will address the theme, The X Factor: Women of Biology and Biology of Women, chosen to honour International Women’s Day, which falls three days later.
This is the 37th annual spring symposium organized by the Association of Graduate Students in the Biological Sciences (AGSBS).
Students get a chance to hear top researchers and exhibit their own work on women’s health issues. Invited speakers are:
- Linda Penn, head of the Division of Cancer Genomics & Proteomics at the Ontario Cancer Institute;
- Ted Brown, head of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Toronto;
- Miriam Richards, a sociobiologist in the Department of Biological Sciences at Brock University;
- Barbara Vanderhyden, Corinne Boyer Chair in Ovarian Cancer Research at the University of Ottawa;
- Theresa Woodruff, Thomas J. Watkins Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, and professor of biochemistry, molecular biology & cell biology at the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences;
- Cheryl Arrowsmith, senior scientist with the Division of Cancer Genomics & Proteomics at the Ontario Cancer Institute;
- Bridget Stutchbury, Canada Research Chair in Ecology & Conservation Biology at York.
The March 5 symposium starts at 8:30am and ends at 6:30pm. It takes place in the Founders Assembly Hall, 152 Founders College. Students and faculty are welcome to attend.
