New online curriculum vitae tool coming to York U

Discover York Academics

York University is testing a new tool – Discover York Academics – that will help faculty members centralize and showcase their academic and professional work online.

Discover York Academics is an electronic curriculum vitae tool that acts as a searchable, online database for faculty to document and share their research, publications, scholarly and creative works, and related teaching and professional activities. Faculty can also display their availability for graduate student supervision, academic and industry collaborations and more.

A major benefit of the tool is that it uses automation and aggregation from public sites, like DSpace, Scopus, ORCiD and Dimensions, to continually update information on a faculty member’s profile, saving time and resources needed for manual data entry.

Discover York Academics also provides full control to each user to decide what information is for private or public display, and all data is stored on Canadian servers with industry-standard encryption.

The tool is currently in use at other research institutions, including the University of Toronto, the National University of Singapore and the University College Dublin, among others globally.

A test phase of the tool has begun and will run from September to December 2023. The project team is currently recruiting faculty to try the tool early, participate in training sessions and provide feedback and input about their user experience.

A hard launch of the tool is scheduled for early 2024.
