Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to inform members of the York University community of the appointment of Brad Strom as chief information officer (CIO), effective Monday, Feb. 21.

Brad brings more than 25 years of executive management experience and over 16 years of digital strategy and information technology (IT) expertise. He has led organizational transformation through the strategic adoption and management of IT solutions, as well as navigated and managed enterprise-level governance. He joins us from SaskPower after serving as the vice-president and chief information officer of technology and security.

A strategic and pragmatic visionary with a track record for successfully building organizational capability, Brad has led and implemented complex information technology transformational projects to increase impact, extend technical distinction, and improve operational efficiency. He is passionate about delivering meaningful change through effective partnerships and is looking forward to continuing our transformational journey. He will provide leadership for the University’s information technology systems and services in support of our academic mission and will be responsible for deploying technology in support of teaching, learning, and research, incorporating future innovations to create positive change.

Brad holds a bachelor of engineering in computer systems from Carleton University, and has completed many professional development training programs, particularly in leadership and information technology.

Over the last few months, as we have conducted a deliberative and extensive search, Aladin Alaily has served as interim CIO. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aladin for his contributions – we are most grateful for his hard work and attention to our technology environment.

Please join me in welcoming Brad to York. I look forward to working closely with him to advance our academic priorities and our vision for service excellence.

Sincerely,

Rhonda L. Lenton
President and Vice Chancellor
