Hire a student: Call for Fall/Winter 2021-22 Work/Study position submissions

Schulich will soon be launching its Business Excellence Academy, a business education and mentorship program supporting 60 Black and Indigenous Ontario high school students this summer.

Student Financial Services announces the call for position requests for the Fall/Winter 2021-22 Work/Study Programs. The Work/Study Program at York University provides eligible undergraduate students (domestic and international) with the opportunity to develop professional skills and contribute to the University through paid, on-campus employment opportunities that enrich and complement their classroom experiences.  In addition, student employees are provided with the support and tools needed to develop proficiency in core competencies that will contribute to long-term personal and professional success and capacity to lead. The Work/Study Program is comprised of three separate and distinct programs:

  • Research at York (RAY) supports the research culture of the university by involving undergraduate students in quality, hands-on research experiences.
  • Leadership, Engagement and Ambassadorship Program (LEAP) engages students in pan university roles that enhance the overall student experience at York university and allows students to develop skills such as leadership, peer mentoring, and peer support within the University setting.
  • General Work/Study roles offer student employees a broad range of clerical, administrative and technical opportunities that enable students to develop relevant skills and gain valuable work experience. These roles offer a learning and development opportunity for student employees to receive experiential, on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship.

Hiring units and faculty members who are approved for positions are eligible for partial reimbursement of the students’ wages assuming all program conditions have been met. Complete information including terms and conditions, instructions on how to post a job request and reimbursement rates, is available on the Employment Administrators website.

All requests for Work/Study and LEAP positions must be submitted through YU Hire using the job summaries provided.  Multiple positions can be requested with one requisition (e.g. one job requisition for ten (10) available positions).  Enquiries about requisition submission should be sent to your HRBP or at hrhelp@yorku.ca.

Requests for RAY or Work/Study positions within research units are submitted through Experience York, the job posting system for the Career Education & Development.  Please note that a separate posting is required for each position a faculty member/unit would like to have considered.   RAY submissions are limited to a maximum of three positions per session, per principal sponsoring faculty member.

The deadline date for entering all job request(s) is Friday, July 9.  Decisions will be communicated by e-mail the week of July 26 to 30.  Approved positions will go ‘live’ on the respective job posting sites starting on or before July 30.

All questions related to Work/Study can be directed to wspost@yorku.ca.
