York University residence students and community members can save time and avoid lineups with a new mobile app that offers convenient, contactless ordering and payment from Keele Campus eateries.

The Transact Mobile Ordering App allows users to quickly browse open dining halls and food merchants, customize orders and pay from their mobile devices. Users can order items for immediate pickup or pre-order items for scheduled pickup times. Payment is secure and provides the ability to use YU-card flex dollars and meal plan dollars as payment methods. The app also offers users incentives and rewards on their purchases.

The app is now available for ordering from food merchants at the Keele Campus, and will be rolled out to all campuses in the coming months as more students, faculty and staff return to in-person classes and activities. Currently, users can order from Stong and Winters Dining Halls, Tim Hortons, Subway and Starbucks. Offerings on the app will be expanded as the rollout continues.

The mobile app is being introduced as an approach to meet the needs and demands of the community during COVID-19 and beyond. The app was developed by Transact, a leader in mobile ordering and payment solutions for institutions across North America.

“The mobile ordering app will allow the York community to engage with food services in a new and dynamic way,” says Thomas Watt, director of Food Services at York. “Though our main focus was to introduce a mobile ordering system as an additional layer of safety in the midst of the pandemic, I am particularly excited about the ways that this app will allow us to interact with the community through promotions, contests, customer feedback and more.”

The app is available for iOS and Android devices. Instructions on how to download and set it up are available at https://www.yorku.ca/foodservices/mobileapp/.
