Leonard Wolinsky Lectures move online, explore Jewish past

The Israel and Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies will host its annual Leonard Wolinsky Lectures on Jewish Life and Education on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. in an online format.

The Wolinsky Lectures this year will be dedicated to “Reimaging/Reimagining
the Jewish Past,” and will feature distinguished lecturers will including:

  • Professor Steven Fine of Yeshiva University, who will discuss “‘Titus You’re Gone, But We’re Still Here, Am Yisrael Chai’: Modern Jewish Pilgrimage to the Arch of Titus;” and
  • Professor Rachel Hallote of the State University of New York at Purchase, who will talk about “Imagining Ancient Jews in 19th century Palestine: The Rediscovery of the Holy Land and the Birth of Biblical Archaeology.”

The webinar will feature two lectures of 35 minutes. Each lecture will be followed by a 15-minute Q-and-A. There will be a five-minute break between the lectures.

The Israel and Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies is Canada’s first interdisciplinary research centre in Jewish Studies, bringing together a vibrant community of scholars and teachers to promote cutting-edge research in the field.
