New Graduate Diploma in Management offers competitive advantage

For those who have completed their degree and are finding that knowledge and enthusiasm can only go so far in the job market, there’s a new York University graduate program to teach the skills needed to gain a competitive edge in just two semesters.

The new Graduate Diploma in Management (GDM) is designed to complement non-business degrees by providing a solid understanding of the core principles of modern management and the key skills required for managing an organization.

“I personally know students who spent years looking for a job after graduation,” said Aliaksandr Rusetski, graduate program director. “What they needed for their resumes was something to show that they also know management.

“As a new grad, it’s important to find ways to distinguish yourself in the job market. In addition to your area of expertise, management plays a key role across all sectors.”

Taught by academics and practitioner experts, the GDM introduces students to major areas in the study of management, including organizational theory, marketing, accounting, finance, operations management and management information systems. In addition, students can choose to focus on business management or not-for-profit/public management.

The diploma program can be completed in just two semesters (eight months), including a half-semester devoted to a practical, real-world project.

“We designed it with the idea that the majority of students would be busy people,” Rusetski said. “It could be graduate students taking other programs, or it could be people who are already working. We tried to make it about the big picture: it’s convenient, and it’s not a specialized program.”

Classes are offered on weekday afternoons and evenings (3 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.) and will be delivered online in the Fall term due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The application deadline for the Fall term (September start) is July 30, 2020. Additional information can be found at https://gdm.gradstudies.yorku.ca/.
