Sarah Cantrell, assistant vice-president institutional planning and analysis in the Office of Institutional Planning & Analysis at York University, has been elected the incoming Chair of the Board of Directors of the Society for College & University Planning (SCUP). The one-year position is a volunteer role, which Cantrell assumed on July 16.
An international association with more than 4,500 members, SCUP connects and develops higher education leaders to ensure their institutions thrive in increasingly complex environments and achieve their missions through effective integrated planning practices.
Integrating all types of planning at universities and colleges – academic, capital, budget, enrolment and student – ensures that the strategic goals of an institution are achieved and are critical to the long-term success and ability of an institution to thrive within increasingly volatile contexts.
Cantrell has been an active member of SCUP for the past 10 years. Most recently, she served as vice-chair of SCUP’s Board of Directors, where she worked with the board to develop SCUP’s new strategic plan. As Chair, Cantrell will guide the SCUP Board of Directors as they implement the strategic plan, which fosters professional development and deeper engagement for the association’s international membership.
Her commitment to SCUP goes beyond board service. She has also served as a member-at-large of SCUP Council, Chair of the SCUP Professional Development Committee, as a member of the Annual Conference Program Committee, and as the program and conference Chairs for the North Central region.
“I have always brought something of value back from SCUP and I enjoy the volunteer time because the association is really invested in helping people transform their organizations and position them for success,” said Cantrell.
