To accommodate necessary upgrades and repairs to the steam system, Central Utilities will hold its annual shutdown of the Keele Campus steam and hot water systems on Sunday, Aug. 18. The shutdown will last from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All hot water and heating steam supply to buildings on the Keele Campus will be affected by the shutdown. There will be no impact to hot water systems in those buildings that have installed electrical or natural gas backup hot water heaters.

Every effort will be made to keep the outage as short as possible.

Buildings that have domestic hot water tanks should retain some residual heat. The following buildings, which have flash units, will not have any domestic hot water during the shutdown:

  • Tatham Hall
  • Vanier College Residence
  • Winters College Residence
  • Calumet College Residence
  • Pond Road Residence
  • Passy Garden Apartments
  • #340 Assiniboine Road
  • Atkinson Residence

Researchers and laboratory staff should take note, as sterilization equipment will have no steam supply during the shutdown. Domestic cold water will not be affected by the shutdown.
