Students’ academic success is the top priority at the York University Bookstore and to support that goal staff are work to ensure that required course materials are in stock before the first day of classes. Early course materials submissions all bookstore staff to provide the best service to both faculty and students enrolled in Fall 2019 and Fall/Winter 2019-20 classes. Every textbook and course pack submission received by July 13 helps bookstore staff to meet that goal. For custom course materials and for titles coming from overseas, the lead time could be between eight and 16 weeks. Books from previous semesters are not normally retained. It is important to notify bookstore staff of Fall 2019 and Fall/Winter 2019-20 term requirements and staff will either retain leftover books or re-order them.
The bookstore continually strives to become a leader in textbook affordability for York University students. By receiving orders early from faculty, bookstore staff are more likely to secure a larger number of used books especially by buying back from York students and being able to include books in the bookstore’s growing rental program. During the 2018-19 academic year, the bookstore’s Textbook Rental Program was offered to 1,260 courses with a total enrolment of 80,000 students. The students’ savings ranged between 20 and 75 per cent of the textbook retail price.
Course materials orders can be submitted to the bookstore buyers in person, via phone, email or through the online ordering system accessed through the Faculty & Staff link available on the York University Bookstore website. For an online ordering password, faculty and staff can email email@example.com. The bookstore webpages are updated to assist faculty and staff, including a list of subjects bought by buyer. The bookstore’s experienced staff will be very happy to meet with faculty in person to help with the course materials submission process and provide faculty with the tools needed. To book a meeting, connect with Laura Deszpa at firstname.lastname@example.org.
