Restored silent films from interwar Austria to be screened at York U

The Israel & Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies at York University, together with the Austrian Embassy in Ottawa, will host Silent Classics of Austrian Jewish Film, a two-day cinematic extravaganza on May 26 and 27.

Moon of Israel [Die Sklavenkönigin] and The City without Jews [Die Stadt ohne Juden] will be accompanied by live piano music composed for them by pianist and composer Gerhard Gruber. Both are restored silent films from interwar Austria.

Moon of Israel [Die Sklavenkönigin] is a retelling of the Exodus story and will be shown on May 26 at 2 p.m. The City without Jews [Die Stadt ohne Juden] is an eerie prediction of what would soon happen in Europe and will be shown on May 27 at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, but seats are limited. Both screenings will take place in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall, Accolade East Building, York University, Keele Campus.
