Red & White Day marks York University’s 60th anniversary

Though the weather was overcast, the spirit on campus was sunny on March 28 for York University’s Red & White Day celebration.

The event, which aims to boost school spirit and “Lion Pride” also marked the University’s 60th anniversary. Students, staff, faculty and visitors enjoyed a day of celebrations at the Keele Campus, with many dressed in red and white to show their support.

The day included events such as: a campus alumni and donor breakfast, cupcake decorating, face paining, food trucks and two speaker series events – one presented by Professor Dawn Bazely and the other by Indochino CEO Drew Green.

Vari Hall, Vari Link and Central Square were buzzing with energy as students, staff and faculty set up booths to represent student groups and clubs, departments, giveaways, a pop-up pride shop and more. Many stopped to collect a 60th anniversary-themed doughnut, make a personalized button, pick up a reusable coffee cup or straw, or check out the pride wear.

The University Bookstore held a day-long sale, and those who participated in Red & White Day were encouraged to enter the photo contest on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #YUSpirit.
