The following is a welcome message from York University President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda L. Lenton:
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to a new academic year at York University.
The start of a new academic year provides an opportunity to set goals and to try something new, so I encourage you to take advantage of all that York offers in and outside of your classroom or office. From athletic teams and artistic endeavours to community outreach, lectures, workshops, clubs and associations, there are countless ways for you to make meaningful connections and to enrich your experience during your time here.
As one of Canada’s leading engaged universities, York is proud to empower our community with skills, resources and opportunities to think boldly and to seek solutions to the pressing challenges facing our world today.
We are a diverse and inclusive community of engaged and innovative students, faculty, staff, alumni and partners dedicated to making a positive impact on the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of society through our scholarly, research and creative activities.
No matter where you come from – whether it’s around the corner or across the globe – there is a place for you in our community to grow and achieve your full potential, and to make your own unique mark on the world. At York, we are proud to embrace diverse perspectives and to offer campus spaces and services which ensure that all community members feel safe and supported.
This is an exciting time for York, and you can learn more about our community’s most recent accomplishments and initiatives by watching my Fall Welcome video. We have much to look forward to this year, including the celebration of York’s 60th anniversary in 2019.
On behalf of all of us at the University, I wish you the very best this year, and I look forward to seeing you on our campuses.
