Journalist Noor Javed will be the featured guest speaker of the upcoming McLaughlin College Lunch Talk series at York University on March 7.

Javed, an award-winning reporter with the Toronto Star, will present the talk “Journalism, Critical Thinking, and News in an Orwellian Era” from 12:30 to 1:30pm in 140 McLaughlin College, Senior Common Room.

Javed talk will examine how critical thinking is essential to university success. As citizens and consumers of news, we need to be able to analytically distinguish fact from fiction when reading the news and journalists have to take an evaluative stance in order to carefully research and report accurately. Javed will talk about the Orwellian world we live in with fake news, and how journalist are ultimately critical thinkers who use meta-cognition in their everyday reporting.
