LAPS faculty, students invited to join petitions and appeals committee

Full-time personnel of York University’s Faculty of Liberal Arts  Professional Studies (LA&PS) are invited to join the LA&PS Committee on Student Academic Petitions and Appeals. The committee is seeking to fill its faculty complement for the fall/winter 2017 session. There is currently room on the committee for five LA&PS full-time personnel.

The LA&PS Petitions & Appeals Committee meets twice a week, on a biweekly schedule of alternating Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday sessions. Committee members attend one two-hour panel every two weeks, as best suits their schedules. These meetings consider and rule on a variety of LA&PS student petitions and academic appeals.

Occasionally, members will be asked to make policy recommendations concerning the administration of petitions and appeals in LA&PS.

Familiarity with LA&PS petitions/regulations is an asset, but not a requirement. Members of the committee are asked to serve two-year terms.

LA&PS faculty members may contact either of the LA&PS petitions officers, Stephen R. Davis (sdavis@yorku.ca) or Cathy Genua (cgenua@yorku.ca), for more information on how to self-nominate for September’s Faculty Council meeting.

The committee also will require eight student members. Students interested in serving on the committee must be affiliated with the Student Council of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (SCOLAPS), and should contact SCOLAPS Chair Kiana Blake (kianablake09@gmail.com) for further information on the elections process.

Interested parties are asked to respond by Sept. 7.
