York hosts national conference on Southeast Asian Studies, announces call for abstracts

York University will host the 33rd Biennial Canadian Council of Southeast Asian Studies (CCSEAS) conference in October 2017.

The conference theme, ‘People In and Out of Place’represents a long-standing yet often forgotten dynamic of a region known as the crossroads of different peoples, histories, cultures and politics.

York will welcome panels, roundtables and screen works to discuss the meaning of this condition by exploring the conflicting formation and transformation of institutions, knowledges, ideologies, ecologies, identities, places and practices in the rural, urban and peri-urban spaces of the region, and in diasporic Southeast Asian communities.

The deadline for abstracts is April 30.

The conference will take place on Oct. 26 and 27 at York University and is hosted by the York Centre for Asian Research.
