As a University with close ties to France, the York community is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Paris on Friday, Nov. 13, and we extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our paramount concern. The University has contacted all of our students who are studying abroad in France and confirmed they are safe.

We are asking any faculty or staff member who is currently in France and whom we have not heard from to email the University at the following address to provide an update on their situation and current contact information safety.abroad@yorku.ca.

If you know a community member who is currently in Paris, please inform us by emailing safety.abroad@yorku.ca

The Government of Canada has a telephone line and email address for those who need assistance or are seeking information about relatives at 1-613-996-8885 or sos@international.gc.ca. Government travel advice and advisories are available at travel.gc.ca/destinations/france.

York University has lowered its flags until sunset on Monday, Nov. 16 to coincide with the Government of Canada, which has lowered the Canadian flag at the Peace Tower.
