CHR issues call for proposals for annual Inclusion Day Conference

York University’s Centre for Human Rights (CHR) is hosting its 7th annual Inclusion Day Conference on Jan. 27, 2016, with the theme Human Rights & the University – Progressive? Constrained? Connected?

CHR is inviting proposals that critically analyze the current relationship between human rights and universities. For example: Are universities serving as progressive engines in the area of social justice or are they a constraint in the fight for human rights? Are universities as connected with communities as they should be to drive social change? Are universities applying their academic and administrative knowledge towards social justice?

Proposals may focus on, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • indigenous knowledge
  • intersectional identities
  • race and racialization
  • gender expression/expectations/performace
  • (dis)abilities
  • business, science and human rights
  • sexual violence
  • university policies and procedures
  • religion/spirituality
  • knowledge of production and pedagogy
  • immigration/refugee issues
  • community leadership and mobilization
  • sexual orientation
  • social media and human rights
  • employment equity
  • human rights and pop culture

Presenters may submit proposals for a 75-minute session in one of the following formats:

  • roundtable discussion
  • do-it-yourself (DIY) workshop
  • individual or panel presentation
  • interactive workshop
  • dialogue process
  • artistic/creative presentation and discussion

Proposals must be submitted no later than Friday, Nov. 6, by online submission at yorku.ca/rights/forms/view.php?id=24.
