Schulich School of Business

Twelve teams of MBA and graduate students from leading business schools will compete to win the fifth annual invitational Developers’ Den case competition at York University’s Schulich School of Business on Friday, March 6.

This intense, one-day case competition allows the best and brightest real estate and planning students to showcase their skills before a panel of judges composed of industry leaders.

The annual competition is organized by the Schulich Real Property Alumni Association and is sponsored by RealNet Canada, the country’s leading real estate information services company, and the Altus Group.

Teams of graduate students from the following schools will be competing in this year’s competition: the Schulich School of Business; the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation at Columbia University in New York; the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in Washington; the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto; the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University; and the School of Urban & Regional Planning at Queen’s University.

“Schulich launched Developers’ Den in 2011 to provide our students with another hands-on learning opportunity with important feedback from industry leaders,” said Andre Kuzmicki, executive director of Schulich’s graduate Real Estate & Infrastructure program. “The event has generated a lot of buzz within the real estate industry. As always, it will be exciting to see the proposals that the students come up with when they are presented with this year’s challenging real-world development problem.”

The event will begin with competitors receiving the case study at 8:30am on March 6. Presentations of the five finalist teams will be made to judges at 5pm. The winners will be announced by 6:30pm.

The final round judges for this year’s event are: Michael Emory, CEO, Allied Properties REIT; Michael Cooper, president and CEO, DREAM Unlimited Corp.; Brian Johnston, COO, Mattamy Homes; Stephen Sender, managing director and industry head, Real Estate Investment Banking, Scotiabank; and Jim Coccimiglio, senior vice-president, National Real Estate Group, Business Banking, TD Bank Group.
