The morning of Friday, Oct. 31 brought all treats and no tricks to the Division of Students.

The new Discover York Campus Visit & Tour Centre on the first floor of the Bennett Centre for Student Services was officially opened by Vice-Provost Students Janet Morrison following a student services all-staff meeting (complete with a Halloween costume competition).

The senior leadership thanked the construction teams working on the project. Following remarks the Division of Students staff toured the new centre. .

The centre represents more than two years of planning and execution, and was a collaborative effort between the Office of the Vice-Provost of Students, Student Recruitment, Registrarial Services and Student Client Services, along with Campus Services and Business Operations. “The new Discover York Centre is a more inviting place for future students, their families, visitors and staff,” Morrison told staff. “[The centre] is a component of our divisional strategy that puts students at the center of everything we do.”

The project has transformed the first-floor of the Bennett Centre with a new central welcome desk, a glass-enclosed presentation room and a new front desk for Student Client Services. The Discover York Centre is a fully-wired and dynamic space with a large presentation screen, tablet stations connected to the University’s Future Students website and application pages, as well as modern moveable furniture.

“The Discover Centre will be our central on-campus recruitment hub,” said Amber Holliday, manager of Canadian Recruitment and On-Campus Events. “We will now have a dedicated space in which to give recruitment presentations, meet our daily tour groups, host Saturday@York events and fast track sessions for mature and transfer students – and continue to make the vital personal connections with students that we know make such a difference when it comes to applying to university.”

Later this fall, the centre will be staffed by York Student Recruitment Ambassadors on a daily basis.
