Emergency public address system testing underway on Keele campus

All academic and administrative buildings at the Keele Campus are being equipped with an emergency public address (PA) system.

The system, which has outdoor and indoor speakers and strobe lights, has been installed in 26 buildings on campus. Testing of the systems will take place May 30 and 31 from 6:15pm to 2am. The tests will activate the indoor and outdoor speakers and strobe lights in each of the buildings.

The following is a schedule of test times for May 30 and 31:

  • Tait McKenzie Centre – 6:15pm to 7pm
  • Curtis Lecture Halls – 7 to 7:30pm
  • Central Square & Scott Religious Centre – 7:30pm to 8pm
  • Scott Library – 8 to 9:30pm
  • Student Centre – 9:30 to 10:30pm
  • York Lanes – 10:30 to 11:30pm
  • Vari Hall – 11:30pm to 12:30am
  • Accolade West Building –  12:30 to 1am
  • Accolade East and  The Harry Arthurs Common – 1 to 1:30am
  • Technology Enhanced Learning Building (TEL) – 1:30 to 2am

A series of PA system tests will be conducted by in a second group of buildings to ensure that the equipment installed functions correctly. PA system tests in these buildings will be conducted between 6 and 8am. The test activate the strobe lights and will play music. The tests, which started May 28 continue to June 6. The following buildings are affected:

  • Schulich School of Business – test completed (Wednesday May 28 – 6 to 8am)
  • Bennett Centre for Student Services – test completed (Thursday May 29 and Friday May 30, 6 to 8am)
  • Behavioural Sciences Building – 6 to 8am
  • Centre for Film and Theatre – 6 to 8am
  • Atkinson Building – 6 to 8am
  • Farquharson Life Science Building – 6 to 8am
  • Lassonde Building – 6 to 8am
  • Steacie Science Building – 6 to 8am
  • Petrie Science and Engineering Building – 6 to 8am
  • Chemistry Building – 6 to 8am
  • Life Sciences Building – 6 to 8am
