Members of the York University Lions football and women’s rugby teams took time out of their busy year-end schedules last week to donate blood as part of the Canadian Blood Services drive on campus.
Led by Aisan Fazeli and Vicky Mork, the women’s rugby Lions started the initiative a couple of years ago and this season convinced the football team to join them. Together, the student-athletes made 60 donations, with each one able to help three people survive.
The women’s rugby team has also turned the annual event into an internal competition to see who can donate blood the fastest. This year’s winner was Genevieve Burnett, with Jonelle Mars finishing in second place and Fazeli rounding out the top three.
