During 2012, York University President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri accepted a recommendation from the President’s Sustainability Council (PSC) that the University create an advisory committee on responsible investing that includes student and employee members.  The recommendation was for this advisory committee to provide a forum to discuss and express opinions on the responsible investing of University endowment funds and, from time to time, to provide advice to the University administration through the Vice-President Finance & Administration, who is responsible for formulating recommendations for decision by the Board of Governors of York University, through its Investment Committee.

Over the past year, Terms of Reference for a York University Advisory Committee on Responsible Investing (YUACRI) have been established.  These terms calls for a committee membership that includes three members of the faculty and one member of the administrative staff to be appointed, upon an open call for volunteer members.  The selection of members will be made by the president in consultation with the PSC Chair, Professor Ilan Kapoor of the Faculty of Environmental Studies.  Three student members will be named, one representative each for the York Federation of Students, the York University Graduate Students Association and the PSC Student Sub-committee.  University Treasurer Laurie Lawson and Chief Financial Officer Trudy Pound-Curtis will also be members of the YUACRI.

At this time, members of the faculty and administrative staff who wish to volunteer to serve on the YUACRI are invited to submit a brief note expressing their interest, stating how they feel they could contribute.  The term of membership is two years, with the possibility of re-appointment.

Consideration in selecting the members will be given to a reasonable balance between full-time and contract faculty; Faculty, discipline and campuses represented.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by July 15 to: Steve Dranitsaris, 950 Kaneff Tower, Keele campus, or by e-mail, sdrano@yorku.ca.
