Passings: Jamie Ferguson was a long-serving staff member in visual arts

Jamie Ferguson was a long-serving staff member in the Department of Visual Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts. He died suddenly at home on Jan. 29.

Mr. Ferguson, or “Jamie” as he was best known, joined the department in 1975, working as a technician and subsequently as supervisor of the photography studio until his retirement in 2011. A generation of students benefited from his expert technical guidance and support for their learning and creative work. Jamie will be remembered and missed by those who knew him and his dedication to York.

Jamie leaves his wife Ann, sons Nicholas and Andrew, brother Jeremy (Carol), mother-in-law Betty, brother-in-law Steve (Sylvia deceased), and nieces Kelsey and Kristin.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket. Visitation takes place tonight (Friday, Feb. 1) from 6-9pm. A funeral service for Jamie will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 2, at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Jamie’s memory be made to a favourite charity.
