The early bird gets the worm or so goes the saying, but for Ping Peng, HR business partner with York’s Human Resources Services in Campus Services & Business Operations, entering her York Cares United Way Pledge early resulted in her winning something much better – an iPad Mini.
The early bird draw was held Tuesday, Nov. 13 for all those who entered their United Way pledge before the Monday 4pm deadline.
The second prize of a book – Las Nubes: Conservation in the Cloud Forests of Costa Rica, was won by Glendon economics Professor Can Erutku, while the third prize of a $25 Starbucks gift card went to Professor Lauren Sergio of the School of Kinesiology & Health Science in the Faculty of Health.
There are still loads of prizes to be won though. The mid-campaign participation draw is coming up soon – Tuesday, Nov. 20. To be eligible, community members who have not yet donated should submit their pledge form by 4pm on Monday, Nov. 19 with a pledge of $1/week or $52/year. Mid-campaign prizes to be won are: an iPod Nano, donated by Data Integrity; a copy of Cloud Forests of Costa Rica, donated by the York University Bookstore; and Lunch for 2 at the Schulich Executive Dining Room donated by the Schulich Executive Learning Centre.
The York Cares United Way Campaign is off to a great start. It is already at a participation rate of six per cent and has raised more than $115,000.
Every pledge to the United Way helps to build a city where every person is able to reach their full potential; a city where every neighbourhood is thriving; a city that is healthy today; a city poised for a bright future.
