Barbara Crow appointed interim dean and associate vice-president graduate

York Vice-President Academic and Provost Patrick Monahan issued this announcement to the University community:

I regret to announce that Allan Hutchinson has indicated his intention to resign as Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies/AVP Graduate, for personal reasons, effective Aug. 31, 2012.  I am grateful to Allan for the leadership he has photo of Barbara Crowprovided as Interim Dean and then Dean of the Faculty.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Barbara Crow as Interim Dean and AVP Graduate, effective September 1, 2012 for a ten-month term.  Barbara has been a member of the faculty at York since 2001, and holds a PhD in sociology from this University; she is an associate professor in the Department of Communications in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies.  She is currently serving as associate dean teaching and learning in LA&PS, and prior to that appointment held the position of associate dean research.  Barbara has also served as director of the York-Ryerson Graduate Program in Communication & Culture. Her areas of academic interest include women’s studies and the social, cultural, political and economic implications of digital technologies.

I am very grateful to Barbara for her willingness to undertake this important position at a critical time for graduate studies at York, and I look forward to working with her in this capacity.
