Dialogue is an important part of any change. With that in mind, the Creating a Better Workplace team has launched its new website. The site offers a place where York University’s faculty and staff can learn about and contribute to the ongoing conversation about what makes a better workplace at York University.

The website offers news, announcements and updates about Creating a Better Workplace, its history, goals, milestones that have been achieved and a road map of future goals. The website also offers University staff and faculty an easy way to contribute to the dialogue through regular interactive polls and a venue where they can ask questions, receive feedback and have the ability to share their own Better Workplace success stories.

The Creating a Better Workplace website was established based on feedback provided by York employees during community consultation sessions held last year. The site was created by University Information Technology, in partnership with the Creating a Better Workplace team.

“One of the key things the Better Workplace team learned from our consultations with the community was that York employees wanted to see improved internal communications,” said Rhonda Lenton, vice-provost and chair of Creating a Better Workplace. The site, said Lenton, is an important first step to improving communications between the Creating a Better Workplace team and all University employees. “The site offers a quick and efficient way to access current information and the steps York University is taking to create a better workplace.”

The Creating a Better Workplace website features streamlined navigation, providing users with access to videos, work updates, and clear and concise information about leadership and effective management, rewarding and recognizing employee efforts, and insight into culture change.

“Changing an organization’s workplace culture is a long-term commitment, and it is a shared responsibility between the University’s management, union leadership and York employees,” said Suzanne Killick, Creating a Better Workplace – project director. “Having a website where everyone can access important information will greatly improve communications. It will help achieve the kind of conversation the University needs to ensure that every division, Faculty and unit includes creating a better workplace as a core strategic goal in their Integrated Resource Plan.”

The Creating a Better Workplace Project was established in 2009 by York’s President and Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri. Its goal is to create a more trusting and positive work environment for all University employees.
