Free tax clinic for Black Creek community starts tomorrow

In a quest to reach out to the local community, York’s School of Administrative Studies and the Atkinson Professional Accounting Association, in partnership with the York University-TD Community Engagement Centre, are offering a free summer income tax preparation clinic.

The clinic will take place Wednesday, July 13, Thursday, July 14, Wednesday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 25, from 10am to noon, at the York University-TD Community Engagement Centre, Yorkgate Mall, 1 York Gate Blvd., Suite 232, Toronto.

Those eligible to attend the clinic have to be living in the Black Creek catchment area, have a gross household income of less than $20,000 with no dependants or less than $30,000 with dependants. Sue LevesqueSelf-employment or business income does not qualify for this free service.

“These summer clinics provide a valuable service to our local community and help people get caught up on their taxes and ready for the annual clinics we do during tax time,” says Sue Levesque (right), executive director of the York University-TD Community Engagement Centre. “We are grateful to Professors Jason Fleming and Joanne Magee, and their students, for making this service available.”

The York University-TD Community Engagement Centre is a teaching, research and resource centre that fosters partnerships between the community and the University.

The clinic is on a first-come, first-serve appointment basis only.
