New parking regulations go into effect for The Village at York

The City of Toronto has brought in new parking restrictions on streets within The Village at York that may affect some York students.

All local roadways within the community are now signed to indicate that on-street parking is restricted to one hour between 8am and 8 pm, Monday to Friday. Cars parked longer than one hour will be subject to tagging by the Toronto Police Services Parking Enforcement Unit.

The new bylaw, which was approved by North York Community Council, allows long-term overnight parking as requested by the residents association to give tenants, many of whom are students, a place to park.

Previously, street parking in The Village at York was restricted to the standard three hours during the day on unsigned streets.

The city says the new parking regulations will allow for overnight parking for the residents, tenants and visitors to the area, while addressing residents’ concerns that some York students were parking for extended periods during the day.

The city has also produced a map of the Village showing where parking is permitted.
