Watermain, utility and road works for new subway will cause traffic delays

Starting today and continuing through to mid December, expect lane restrictions southbound on Keele Street from north of Murray Ross Parkway to Finch Avenue West. There will also be lane restrictions on Finch Avenue West in both directions approaching Keele Street. Contractors will be installing watermains, sewers and manholes as part of construction related to the Finch West Subway Station.

Paid duty officers will direct traffic at the intersection of Keele and Finch. The lane restrictions will have a significant impact on traffic flow in the area. University community members may want to consider alternate routes to and from York’s Keele campus during this period.

There will be temporary to significant traffic delays due to varying lane restrictions on the following streets:

  • Keele Street southbound from 200 metres north of Murray Ross Parkway to Finch Avenue West for watermain and utility work.

  • Murray Ross Parkway in both directions through Keele Street and Tangiers Road.

  • Toro Road will be restricted in both directions between Keele Street and Tangiers Road.

  • Finch Avenue West will be restricted in both directions approaching Keele Street.

Work hours:  Work will normally run from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. No work will be done on statutory holidays

Pedestrian safety: The sidewalks in the affected areas will remain open at all times to maintain pedestrian access during this portion of the construction.

Transit delays: Expect transit delays during peak times on the 36 Finch West, 107 Keele North and 41 Keele bus service.

Construction vehicle access: Construction vehicles will enter the construction site on Keele Street at Murray Ross Parkway and on Finch Avenue West at Tangiers Road.
