York Security seeks information about recent robberies

York Security is asking for assistance in gathering information in connection with a number of recent robbery incidents on York’s Keele campus. 

In light of these incidents, York Security is also asking community members to be as vigilant as possible in exercising personal safety awareness. Reporting any suspicious persons or behaviour to York Security Services also helps to protect our campus and its members.

On Sunday, Oct. 24 at 11pm – A male community member was approached by two males, who grabbed his cell phone and ran away with it. Police were called. The two suspects, both young offenders, were quickly located by police and as they were arrested and removed from campus, were found to have a replica hand gun in their possession. The phone was retrieved.

On Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10pm – A female community member and her friend, while walking near Library Lane and the Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies Building, had a purse stolen by two males, who were last seen running east toward the Atkinson Building. Toronto police describe the suspects as two black males, slim build, one wearing a black hoodie and black pants, the other wearing a black sweater and black pants. Both 17 to 18 years old.

On Friday, Oct. 22 at 8pm – A male community member had his cell phone grabbed and stolen by a male suspect while standing in the VIVA bus stop adjacent to the York Research Tower Building. The suspect ran off with the phone toward the Chimneystack Road area. The suspect is described by police as: 6’2" tall, a fit build, wearing a dark gray hoodie and black track pants, approximately 20 to 25 years old.
