York’s history nominated for Heritage Toronto book award

York’s history – and York’s historian – are in the running for an award tonight.

York University: The Way Must Be Tried, written for York’s 50th anniversary in 2009 by University Historian & Professor Emeritus Michiel Horn, has been nominated in the book category of the 36th annual Heritage Toronto Awards. The category recognizes excellent non-fiction books published in 2009 that explore Toronto’s archaeological, built, cultural or natural heritage and history.

The winner of this and other Heritage Toronto Awards will be announced at a ceremony tonight in conjunction with the William Kilbourn Memorial Lecture, to be held at the Royal Conservatory of Music in downtown Toronto.

Horn’s book is up against nine nominees, all chosen by an independent jury. There are two possible awards: the Award of Excellence (the highest) and the Award of Merit. For more information on the awards, see the Heritage Toronto site.
