The president extends Stan Shapson’s term as VP research & innovation into 2011

President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has issued this message to the York community:

I am pleased to announce that Stan Shapson has agreed to an extension of his term as vice-president, research & innovation, for 2010-2011. Over his two five-year terms, VP Shapson has been instrumental in advancing York’s research and innovation mandate, as well as raising the University’s profile externally.

Right: Stan Shapson

I have asked VP Shapson to extend his term so that he can oversee the launch of the Regional Innovation Centre, an important research initiative in the provincial government’s ONE Network. I am pleased that under his guidance, York University will have a predominant role in this collaborative network of organizations, aimed to strengthen Ontario’s knowledge-based economy.

I am personally grateful to VP Shapson for his friendship, counsel and excellent work to date, as well as his willingness to extend his term by one year in order to provide some continuity at the senior administrative level.
