Schulich School of Business launches MBA program in India

The Schulich School of Business officially launched the Schulich MBA in India yesterday. It is the first MBA program to be delivered in that country by an international business school from outside India. The program has received government approval from the All India Council for Technical Education, the national regulatory body governing school accreditation and the delivery of degree programs in India.

The inaugural class of the Schulich MBA in India will begin on Jan. 4, 2010. The first year of the MBA program will be delivered at the S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. The second year will be taught in Toronto at the Schulich School of Business. Schulich faculty will deliver the majority of the courses in Mumbai and all courses in Toronto.

“Schulich is proud to provide one of the first truly international MBA degree programs to be offered in India,” said Schulich Dean Dezsö Horváth (left). “The Schulich MBA in India will offer tremendous opportunities for Indian students looking to acquire world-class management training. It aims to attract the best and the brightest students from India and prepare them for global careers in India and around the world.

“The launch of the new MBA in India is an important step in realizing Schulich’s goal of becoming a truly transnational business school,” added Horváth.

“The expectation is that we’re training global citizens so they can take their business skills to any country in the world,” said Schulich marketing Professor Ashwin Joshi (right), executive director of the Schulich India campus and director of the Schulich MBA in India Program.

Schulich’s ties to India go back more than 15 years. The school has exchange partner agreements with a number of India’s leading management schools, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.

In 2005, Schulich opened an international satellite centre in Mumbai that recruits talented students and provides career placement services to Schulich students and alumni seeking career opportunities in India. The centre also offers executive and leadership development programming for Indian executives, supports Schulich’s alumni chapter in India and manages local media relations.
