International rugby match to be played at York this weekend

Canada’s senior men’s rugby team will take on Wales in a test match on Saturday, May 30 at York Stadium on the Keele campus. Kickoff is set for 2:45pm.

The event marks Wales’ first visit to Canada since 2005 and gives fans a chance to see the Welsh following their Six Nations season.

York Stadium has become the home for Rugby Canada in the Greater Toronto Area. Games hosted at the venue have featured exciting action from the national team against such foes as France, Wales, the England Saxons and the Gloucester Rugby Football Club in recent years. More than 7,000 fans are expected to pack the stadium on Saturday for the match.

The game between Canada and Wales is part of the 2009 Summer International Rugby Series. The series began this past weekend with a contest featuring Canada and Ireland at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. Canada fell to the Irish 25-6. Following the game against Wales, Canada will face the United States twice in July, first in Charleston, South Carolina on July 4 and then in Edmonton on July 11.
