Enter a 50-second video in York’s Flix50 YouTube contest

Have a tale to tell? Is it legendary, cringe-worthy, hilarious or unforgettable? York has recently launched Flix50, a YouTube contest where students and alumni can submit a 50-second video tale about an experience or perhaps a memory to do with the University.

The five-person Flix50 jury will vote for their favourite video every month, starting in April and ending Nov. 25. The monthly winner can choose either a $100 Best Buy gift card or a $100 gift card to the York University Bookstore as their prize.

What are the judges looking for? Creativity, humour, sentimentality and technical prowess. Each video will be awarded points for each category. The video with the most points each month wins. The deadline for this month is April 30.

The following YouTube Flix50 contest entry, Due Date, is an example of what can be shown in 50 seconds.  It was created by York film grad Ryan Knight (BA Spec. Hons. ’07).

In December, the public will have a chance to vote for their favourite video from the monthly winning videos, which will be posted on the Flix50 Web site. The video with the most votes will win the grand prize – a $2,000 Air Canada voucher good for travel to any destination where the airline flies.

The 50-second video stories can be submitted by clicking here. All videos need to be validated before they appear on YouTube, which may take approximately one day. Once approved, the video creator will receive notice by e-mail.
