Printing and photocopying services now included on the YU-card

York University has implemented a new printing and photocopying system in libraries and computer labs. As part of the new system, students can now use their YU-card, York University’s official photo identification and campus debit card, to pay for printing and photocopying services.

As of Sept. 2, the YU-card has replaced the photocopy and print card as the exclusive method of payment for printing and photocopying in libraries and computer labs across campus. The change is part of a pan-University initiative to replace separate card systems with a one-card system for York. Community members who are not presently eligible for a YU-card may purchase a guest YU-card from dispensing machines which can be found at the following locations: Bronfman Business Library, Scott Library (1st floor), Steacie Science Library, Frost Library (Glendon Campus) and the Computing Commons Labs in the William Small Centre.

Under the new system, the cost of printing and photocopying at the Libraries and most computer labs is nine cents for black and white copies and 25 cents for colour copies. The new system adds support for the latest software and printing formats.

Any balance remaining on old photocopy card(s) can be transferred to a YU-card. Transfer of funds can be completed during regular operating hours at the following locations: in the Scott Library (Keele campus) directly across from the circulation desk, and at the Frost Library (Glendon campus) circulation desk.

Students can add money to their YU-card in the following ways:

  1. Online at the YU-card Web site  (Visa or Mastercard – $20 minimum).
  2. By accessing a YU card station ($5 cash minimum) at the Bronfman Business Library, Scott Library, Steacie Science Library, Frost Library, or the Computing Commons Labs in the William Small Centre.
  3. At the YU-Card Office at 200 William Small Centre (cash, Interac, Visa and MasterCard).
  4. At the Glendon Student Financial Services (C-Wing) (cash, Interac, Visa and MasterCard).

In addition to being a photo identification card, meal plan card, library card, and now a printing and photocopying services card, the YU-card is also a prepaid debit card to conveniently purchase items on campus. Unlike other cards, there are no fees to use the YU-card (e.g. Interac, bank plan transaction limits, or minimum purchase fees charged by some retailers).

A complete list of locations that accept the YU-card is available on the YU-card Web site. Students who add money to their YU-card before Sept. 19 are also automatically entered to win a MacBook. Visit the YU-card Web site for details.

If a YU-card is lost or stolen, the card holder will be responsible for charges applied to the card until the account is frozen. YU-card holders must freeze their account as soon as they realize that their YU-card is lost or stolen. YU-card holders can freeze their account using the online YU-card Office(My Accounts tab), or they can visit or call the YU-card Office (200 William Small Centre, Phone: 416-736-5674).  The charge for a replacement card is $20. If the card is damaged, bring it to the YU-card Office and it will be exchanged free of charge.
