Italian students plan charity fashion show for Children’s Wish Foundation

The Italian Association at York University (IAYU) will hold a charity fashion show in aid of the Children’s Wish Foundation, at the Supreme Banquet & Convention Center, 8311 Weston Rd., Woodbridge, Ont., on Thursday, March 13.

Planning for the fashion show has been a five-month process, where various students have tried out and committed hours of time practising their runway and organizational skills to make this all possible. Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 7:30pm. Show tickets are $20 at the door and during the event the IAYU will sell tickets for a raffle. All proceeds from the raffle and admission will benefit the Chrildren’s Wish Foundation.

Various local retailers have donated clothing to be used in the show.

A child representative from the Children’s Wish Foundation will be on hand with his or her family to tell their story and inspire the audience. The show will feature 24 models, wearing designs from seven stores, as well as the work of designer and York student Avital Zeisler. Local singer Laura Cavacece will also perform at the show.

The Italian Association at York University was formed by York students to promote Italian culture and to ensure that Italian ties and traditions are preserved and strengthened. In the past years they have succeeded in hosting many social and cultural events, such as the Halloween Bash, Cultural Day, Fashion Shows, and group trips to Montreal. All proceeds from events are donated to specific charities at the end of the school year. The IAYU is a non-funded/non-profit student organization, and must depend on the generosity of the business community in order to help encourage and promote their unique culture.
