Schulich students shine at business case competitions

Students from York’s Schulich School of Business captured first place in a provincial accounting case competition, while two other Schulich teams snagged silver medals in accounting and finance at an intercollegiate competition.

Undergraduate students Doug Guan and Carmen He won the DECA Provincials Annual Case Competition held in January by the Canadian university arm of DECA, an international organization focused on helping students build careers in business management, marketing and entrepreneurship. A total of 44 participants representing 22 teams from business schools across the province took part in the competition, sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Eric Williams and Ivan Peytchev, both undergraduates at Schulich, won a silver medal in accounting, while undergraduates Fady Abdel-Nour and Jacob Crawford won a silver medal in finance at the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC), held annually at Queen’s University. Students competing in the final round, held in January, had to prepare a 15-minute presentation to a panel of industry professionals.

ICBC is Canada’s oldest and largest undergraduate business case competition, drawing student teams from business schools across Canada and around the world.
