Celebrate national Clean Air Day with Smart Commute

Today is national Clean Air Day and Smart Commute-North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV), together with the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce and local restaurant and special events venue Dave & Buster’s, will host a large-scale public event to raise awareness of two top issues in Vaughan and York Region – traffic congestion and air quality.

Members of the York University community are invited to come out and participate in this free event, Getting Vaughan Moving. A reception will be held at 11am with speeches beginning at 11:45am. Speakers include Ontario Minister of Transportation Donna Cansfield, Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson and York Regional Chair Bill Fisch. They will be joined by municipal councillors and staff from the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority (GTTA).

Speeches are followed by a free BBQ lunch and transportation fair showcasing fun and innovative transportation alternatives. Come out and try a Segway, sit in a hybrid car, learn about carsharing with Zipcar. There will also be opportunities to learn tune-up your bike and sign up for carpooling.

The event will take place at Dave & Buster’s, 120 Interchange Way, Vaughan (Vaughan Corporate Centre, Highways 400 and 7), just north of York’s Keele campus. Transportation Services will be running a shuttle bus to the event from the Keele Campus for York University community members interested in attending the event. The shuttle will run from the York University shuttle stop, outside the Student Centre (by the yellow hotdog stand), to Dave & Buster’s in Vaughan at 10:45am and 11:15am. The shuttle will return from Dave & Buster’s to York University at 1:30pm and 1:45pm.
