Retired economics professor helped found international forum

Retired economics Prof. Chris Paraskevopoulos died on Sunday, May 20. He was 73.

Prof. Paraskevopoulos joined the Economics Department of the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies in 1970. He was an active member of the department, the Faculty and the Senate over his many years at York.

During his career, he was a founding member of the Athenian Policy Forum, an international forum for scholarly debate on issues related to economic organization, globalization and structural change. He was also founding editor of the Journal of Economic Asymmetries.

He embodied the spirit of collegiality. Always generous with this time, he encouraged students in many different ways and mentored junior colleagues. He promoted York University through the international conferences hosted here in partnership with the Athens University of Economics and Business.

He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his love of debate, his love of the Greek classics, and his love of economics.
