Right: James Mavor Moore

Mavor Moore was a member of York’s Department of Theatre from 1970 to 1984, but is known nationally for his enormous contributions to the growth of the arts and culture in Canada which started in the mid-20th century. As Phillip Silver, dean of York’s Faculty of Fine Arts noted, "There have been few individuals who worked in so many areas of the arts — creative and artistic, education, administration and policy. Through his work and the work of those he directed, taught, mentored and advised, he has left a tremendous legacy."

The Mavor Moore Lectures will reflect his dedication to issues surrounding the arts and cultural life of Canada, including cultural policy. It is hoped that the public lectures will also be available through broadcast and publication.

Members of the York community who would like to celebrate Moore’s legacy are encouraged to send their contributions in support of the Mavor Moore Lectures. If desired, donations may be made to Mavor Moore Fund, care of the York University Foundation.
