Wondering where an arts degree could lead?

For students not sure where their arts degree might take them, the Faculty of Arts is offering a series of information sessions ranging from how to get into law school, to study-abroad opportunities in order to give students an idea of their future career options.


The annual Career Development Series features seven sessions offer strategies for applying to graduate programs as well as information about different careers. The free 90-minute sessions take place in the Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Bldg., at 3pm.


Getting into Law School
Wednesday, Oct. 18
Patrick Monahan, dean, York’s Osgoode Hall Law School, and Gina Alexandris, assistant dean of student services, Osgoode, explain the admission process and provide students with strategies for being a successful applicant to Osgoode.


Student Exchanges and Study Abroad
Wednesday, Nov. 8
Lee Mendelsohn-LiVolsi, York International education abroad adviser, presents options for adding an international component to a university career through study or work abroad. Information on exchange opportunities available to York students will be highlighted.


Applying to the Consecutive Education Program at York
Wednesday, Nov. 15
Representatives from the Faculty of Education provide information about the Consecutive Education Program at York and explain the admission process.


Applying to MBA Programs
Wednesday, Nov. 22
Representatives from the Admissions Office at York’s Schulich School of Business outline the various MBA degree options available at Schulich and provide insight into the application process and admission requirements.


Developing a Career in Communications
Wednesday, Jan. 17
John Mahaffy, senior academic adviser, Faculty of Arts Student Academic Centre, and representatives from Seneca College and Centennial College, describe the Joint Program in Communication Arts, which allows students to combine a York degree program with a community college diploma in fields such as advertising, public relations, publishing and broadcast media.


Applying to Graduate School

Norma Sue Fisher-Stitt, associate dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, talks about how to choose the right graduate program and make a successful application. She also explains what resources are available on postgraduate scholarship opportunities.
