New director of information and privacy

Carolyn Heald has joined the University Secretariat and Office of the Counsel as the director of the Information & Privacy Office at York University. Part of Heald’s portfolio includes records and information management. Her appointment became effective Oct. 10.

Heald has extensive records and information management experience with the Archives of Ontario as an archivist (managing the health and social services portfolio), information policy adviser and policy & planning team leader. She brings to her new position strong strategic planning and management skills, and experience with freedom of information and protection of privacy legislation.

“Carolyn has assumed the directorship of the Information and Privacy Office, and I look forward to introducing her to the community,” said Harriet Lewis, York’s secretary and general counsel. “Ellen Hoffmann, who has been with the Records and Information Management Project from its inception and has served most ably as interim information and privacy coordinator, will remain part time with the office for the next several months to assist in the transition. I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Ellen for her commitment, her expertise and her patience in this difficult portfolio.”
